Young Singers signing up for free choral workshop and concert

Media release: September 22, 2009

Young singers from around the area are signing up to sing they have registered for the free choral singing workshop, October 17, in New Hamburg. The event, presented by New Hamburg Live!, is open to  young people from grade 7 through grade 12.

The workshop is led by choral conductor Vicki St. Pierre and accompanist Charlene Nafziger, and funded through a grant from the Lyle S. Hallman Foundation. New Hamburg Live executive director Paul Knowles says, "This funding makes it possible to offer this program free of charge to all interested young singers. We guarantee that they will have fun, and that they will take new musical skills and interests with them at the end of the day."

The only things participants should bring with them are their singing voices and a brown bag lunch. The workshop runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.; the singers will then present a concert for parents, friends and interested people; admission for audience members is $5. The choral workshop and concert will take place at Zion United Church, New Hamburg, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., with the concert at 4 p.m. Participants can pre-register on line at www.newhamburglive.ca.

New Hamburg Live! produced the New Hamburg Live! Festival of the Arts in May, 2009. Event producer Nancy Knowles recently was honoured as the Wilmot Township Cultural Citizen of the Year for her work with New Hamburg Live! Plans are now underway for the 2010 Festival, to take place June 2-6, 2010.
